Program Description
In line with the aim of fostering global leadership to build a global network for preservation and sustainability of island communities, cultures and environments in the Pacific Island Region, this program provides students from the University with the opportunity to participate in an online COIL-based study program that features guest speakers as well as lectures by faculty members of the University’s partner institutions in the Pacific Island Region.

Centered upon the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the program provides participants with lectures and a guest speaker series, in addition to opportunities for interaction and collaborative learning on common issues faced by countries and territories in the Pacific Island Region.

The collaborative and interactive components of this program aim to encourage multicultural understanding, leverage knowledge on SDGs and nurture leadership. All program contents will be conducted in English. Students are encouraged to take initiative by preparing for class interaction in advance and actively participating in discussions. Students must also take part in pre- and post-program elements utilizing COIL that will familiarize participants on the main themes of interest in this program.

In consideration of the program’s focus on administering academic content in English on specific themes that include the history, culture and issues affecting the Pacific Island Region as well as curricula input from the University’s overseas partner institutions and intercultural communication with international students, OISP AY2021-22 is open to both students from the University and our partner institutions in the Pacific Island Region.
